In 1996 and 1997, 153 cases of primary and secondary (PandS) syphilis were reported each year in Guilford County, North Carolina, a 147% increase from the 62 cases reported in 1994 (Figure_1).
Demographic data for all residents of Guilford County with reported cases of syphilis from January 1993 (when the present data registry system was initiated) through August 1997 were analyzed to assess trends in factors that might influence syphilis rates (e.g., access to medical care and adequacy of screening and treatment).
Outbreaks, such as the one in Guilford County, emphasize the prevention strategies and activities needed to maintain national and local progress toward elimination of syphilis, including innovative public health responses tailored to meet the challenge of shifting community patterns of high-risk behaviors and associated new outbreaks of communicable diseases.

In Guilford County, the offices of the Tax Supervisor and the Tax Collector are combined into a single office responsible for listing, appraising, and assessing real and personal property, and for collecting taxes due on that property.
Most Tax Department functions are conducted on the Plaza Level of the County Courthouse in Greensboro, but the primary collection office is located at 330 North Eugene Street.
In the spring, after the Board of County Commissioners establishes the tax rate for the coming fiscal year, taxes due are computed on the basis of real and personal property owned.

Guilford and Forsyth counties are relatively large school systems.
The NW part of the county outside of GSO doesn't have much in the way of townhouses, but I've seen some small houses in the $160-$170k range - but those aren't very common (27310 ZIP code).
North High Point also has a LOT of new and affordable communities (27265 ZIP code) - it is a popular area for people relocating to the area since it is convenient to everywhere in the Triad.

The Battle of Alamance occurred in what was then Orange County, and a number of former Orange residents, in an area which became part of Guilford County that year, participated in the battle and the events surrounding it.
Surry bordered Guilford's northwest area, and, while the creation of Rockingham County out of Guilford's northern third reduced the border with Surry, they were still neighbors until Stokes County was created out of Surry's eastern half in 1789.
VIRGINIA: Also, don't forget that Old Guilford County, the northern third of which became Rockingham County in 1785, was bordered on the north by the Virginia state line and Pittsylvania County, VA, on the northeast side, and Henry County, VA, on the northwest side.

 GENEALOGY OF FIELD FAMILY OF GUILFORD COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA
The last record found for him is on 23 Feb. 1778 when Commissioners for Guilford Co. sold 33 sheep, 11 cows, 1 calf, 13 steers, 4 yearlings, 1 heifer, and 7 young cattle, the property of William and Joseph Fields, they being Loyalitst.
In a 1776 petition, Lyde Field, Mary Field, Lyde Field, and Ann Field (among others) signed a petition for the release of their husbands William, Robert, Joseph and Jeremiah Field, who were taken prisoner (other records show they voluntarily turned themselves in) shortly before the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge.
She stated much of her section on the Armield family was taken from information written at the dictation of Joseph B. Armfield (son of William Armfield and Lydia Julian) "about twenty-five years ago." [about 1877] by his grandson G. Will Armfield of Greensboro.
