 TrouserPress.com :: Brian Setzer
In the hands of an artist with less skill, knowledge or devotion to his musical ideals, this kind of endeavor could be a musty, laughable show-and-tell; with Setzer waving the magic wand, Guitar Slinger trains a telescope at long-gone sounds and projects them into the present with imagination and excitement.
With Phil Ramone producing and Joe Strummer contributing the lyrics to "Ghost Radio" and "Sammy Davis City," Guitar Slinger improves substantially on the debut.
While Setzer is unlikely to challenge Mel Tormé in the smoothie stakes, the pompadoured tattoo canvas handles the diverse material with his usual cocky aplomb and skill and plays tons of superlative — if gratuitously flashy and sometimes ill-placed — guitar.

Trucks has been a guitar slinger and band leader for over a decade…and he is still only 25 years old.
Trucks’ family music connection came in handy as he had plenty of family and friends eager to pick up the little guitar and show Derek how to play a chord progression here and lead guitar riff there.
When Trucks got his professional start in music—playing as a precocious eleven-year-old guitarist in the early 90s—his forte was blazing slide guitar riffs with more than a passing tip of the hat to the work of the Allman Brothers Band.

Keith Levene: Killer in the Crowd Aversion.com Review
On the Killer in the Crowd EP, Levene returns with five tracks of guitar rock that, while not as cold, jagged or brilliant as his work with PiL, showcase his flexibility as a guitar slinger.
As guitar player for Public Image Ltd.’s earliest — and deadliest — lineup, Keith Levene’s as much of an architect for the jagged post-punk sound as Joy Division’s Bernard Albrecht or Gang of Four’s Andy Gill.
The title track, the only song graced with vocals on this EP, is the closest Levene gets to his days as a guitar-slinging terror.

The musicians on this album are: Peter Banks, Electric and acoustic guitars, arp, mini-moog, and Fender piano; Phil Collins, drums; Jan Akkerman, electric guitar; Steve Hackett, electric guitar; John Wetton, bass; Ray Bennett, bass guitar; and Mike Hough, drums.
The initial string-slinger in Yes, Peter Banks appears to have been overlooked in progressive rock annals in favor of his successor, but his work in Flash has stood up quite well to the years.
A short, ambient introduction to the album, Banks and Akkerman play in tandem, and the use of volume pedals makes the guitars sound like violins in the beginning before ending in reverb-drenched arpeggios.

RollingStone.com: Sudden Stop : Colin James : Review
James, one of the best blues-rock guitarists to emerge in recent years, has all the earmarks of the traditional Texas guitar slinger: dazzling, cocksure technique, a flair for dynamics, enough humor to stand clichés on their heads and an innate sense of direction in his soloing.
If Colin James is mapping out a course to establish himself as a guitar hero for the Nineties, Sudden Stop is a step in the right direction.
The record wastes no time in establishing priorities – the first thing you hear is James playing an acoustic delta-blues passage, then breaking into squalling electric-guitar lines on the fiery "Just Came Back."

Amazon.co.uk: The Return of Johnny Guitar: the Best of Johnny Winter 1984-1986: Music
Johnny Winter recorded three electric blues-rock albums for Alligator Records in the mid-eighties ("Third Degree", "Serious Business", and "Guitar Slinger"), and 14 years later Alligator put out this inanely titled but enjoyable compilation.
A compilation that draws from only three LPs may seem a little superflous (the serious Winter fan probably has all three albums anyway), and Winter's three Alligator albums weren't among his very best anyway, but "The Return Of Johnny Guitar" does provide a good sampler for newcomers and casual fans.
"The Return Of Johnny Guitar" opens with a great, rock n' roll-flavoured take on J.B. Lenoir's "Mojo Boogie" and a swaggering "Good Time Woman" (both songs feature the excellent piano playing of veteran bluesman Ken Saydek).
