Gulbarga is a town in the Indian state of Karnataka.
It is the administrative headquarters of Gulbarga District, and of Gulbarga Division.
Gulbarga's old moated fort is in a much deteriorated state, but it has a number of interesting buildings inside including the Jama Masjid, reputed to have been built by a Moorish architect during the late 14th or early 15th century who imitated the great mosque in Cordoba, Spain.

Gulbarga District is situated between 76°.04' and 77°.42 east longitude, and 16°.12' and 17°.46' north latitude, covering an area of 16,224 square kilometres.

Bidar Forest division is the northern most division of Karnataka encompassing the whole of Bidar district and 31 villages of the adjoining Gulbarga district.
The total forest area of the division is 43,592.94 ha, comprising of 4,874.04 ha of reserve forests, 12,802.90 ha of protected forests and 28,881.00 ha of unclassed forests.

Though the reported decision of the Railway Ministry to create a new division with its headquarters in Gulbarga has been welcomed, reports that it will be made part of South Central Railway have come as a shock to the people of Bellary district.
After the line between Hospet and Guntakal was made a broadgauge one to transport iron ore, the Guntakal Division controlled its operational aspects while administrative control remained with the Hubli Division.

BANGALORE: While the average literacy level in the State is 67.05 per cent, the Gulbarga Division has the lowest percentage at 55.05.
The division comprising Bidar,Gulbarga, Raichur, Koppal and Bellary has some of the large industries, such as the RTPS power plant in Raichur and steel units in Bellary.

Addressing the protestors, DPI Gulbarga unit President Mallappa Hosmanikar said that the Dalits at Kampli were living in fear since long.
Their other demands are the resignation of Mr Veerabhadrappa owing moral responsibility for the incident, extrication of the main accused Mr Rao from Bellary, seizure of property owned by all the accused, protection to Dalit families in Kampli and preventive measures by the police to see that such incidents do not occur in Gulbarga division.
