Gulf Province is a province of Papua New Guinea located on the southern coast.
province is dominated by mountains, lowland river deltas, and grassland flood plains, the Kikiori, Turama, Purari and Vaiala rivers all meet the sea in the Gulf Province.
The province has the second-smallest population of all the provinces of Papua New Guinea with 106,898 inhabitants (2000 census).

THE media statement by the Gulf provincial government and its local level governments, "The Road to Prosperity Begins With You", (The National, Jan 28) is a very good vision for the prosperity of the province.
However, such a good piece of advice cannot be taken heed of by the public servants of the province if elected and appointed leaders continue to make Port Moresby their launch room and bedroom while Kerema (Gulf province) continues to play a toilet-room role.
A leader must lead by example and take the blame for what has happened in the province and not "scapegoat" its workers for the downfall of their performance.

During the meeting, out of a umber of areas that were considered, the three that were chosen for the eaglewood pilot projects are Amau community in the Abau district of the Central province, Kapiri community in the Gulf province and Elam/Itapino community in the Enga province.
This set the ball rolling with an inception workshop in November 2003 followed by the March meeting during which Gulf, Central and Enga provinces were chosen for the eaglewood pilot project.
The MOU signing for the Amau village in the Central province was the first to be signed in the PNGFA headquarters here in the National Capital District on June 8th, 2004.

Neogene marine sediments exposed in the Salton Trough, California, along the coast of Baja California, Mexico, on gulf islands, and along the Nayarit coast of mainland Mexico provide insights into the subsidence and marine history of basins intimately involved in the evolution of the Gulf of California.
Geochronologic, lithologic and paleobathymetric data from stratigraphic sections arrayed from the northern reach of the gulf (Fish Creek-Split Mountain, California) to the mouth of the modern gulf (Isla Maria Madre, Mexico) allow use of backstripping techniques to derive rates of basin subsidence.
Seismic reflection profiles and data from onshore and DSDP sites illustrate that deformation of so-called Miocene "proto-gulf" sediments commenced along the eastern margin of the gulf as spreading and rapid subsidence were in progress along the evolving transform-rift boundary to the west.
