No longer Byzantine from the middle of the 11th century, Kotor became one of the capitals of Dioclea (Duklja), a Slav state in the hinterland, but in the 12th century it wa$ again, for a while, the seat of the Byzantine governor, the dux of Dalmatia and Dioclea.
Once in power, the Venetians revoked Kotor's former privileges, while the Turlcish conquest of Bo-snia, Herceg-Novi and Zeta at the end of the 15th century cut the town off from the hinterland and turned it into an island in the troubled sea of the Turkish Empire.
The inclusion of Kotor in UNESCO's list of the world's heritage means that even greater efforts will have to be invested in the restoration and conservation of the affected monuments, a thing that would be irnpossible without the continued assistance of the entire country and the international community at large.

Once we neared Kotor, our bus took us around the numerous twists and turns of the Gulf of Kotor, commonly referred to as a Europe's southernmost fjord, but, in actuality, is a submerged river canyon.

The Gulf of Kotor reminded me of the Lake Lugano or Locarno (Switzerland) where there are also high mountains around the lake.
In the Gulf of Kotor I met with a few cars, I think it was because that the cars chose the ferry before the gulf.
Because of the mountains around the gulf the sun was going down early in the evening before it I swam a good in the sea.
