The first Gulf of Sidra incident, August 19, 1981, was an incident in which two Libyan Sukhoi Su-22 Fitter fighter jets engaged two US F-14 Tomcats off of the Libyan coast.
In 1973 Libya had claimed much of the Gulf of Sidra as its territorial waters and subsequently declared a "line of death", the crossing of which would invite a military response.

It depicts "Fast Eagle 102" (BuNo 160403) as she would have been seen following the Gulf of Sidra incident on August 19, 1981.
Although she wore "102" during the engagement, you will notice that my "Fast Eagle 102" actually wears the side number "101" which is how the aircraft was repainted following the engagement.
