Gulfstream has been developing two business jets concurrently: the G450 and the large-cabin, ultra-long-range G550, which was certified by the FAA in August 2003.
G450 owners, operators, pilots and passengers familiar with the G400 will immediately see and feel the difference provided by the extra 12 inches in the fuselage and changes in the interior arrangement.
Additionally, the G450 pilot type rating is expected to be the same as the G550 pilot type rating with a minimal amount of additional training on the different engine models.

Gulfstream reported that the four-strong test fleet of the new G450 model has now logged more than 400 hours on 117 flights and is on track for U.S. certification in the third quarter of next year and European validation in the fourth quarter.
Externally, the $33 million (completed) G450 closely resembles the $31 million G400 (one of which is on display here), but there are subtle differences.
The G450’s fuselage is actually 12 inches longer than the G400’s and all of this is in the nose, which the G450 inherited from the G550.

The G450 certification is the eighth regulatory approval for Primus Epic and the third on a Gulfstream aircraft, following the G550 and G500.

Gulfstream Aerospace late last month said development of its G450 business jet is "on schedule and on budget," one year after its first flight.
The company added that its own flight test was complete and that tests leading to FAA certification -- scheduled for the third quarter of 2004 -- were well underway.
By employing the four test aircraft, Gulfstream has been able to test and evaluate multiple aspects of the aircraft simultaneously in a relatively short amount of time.
