Gumby is a green clay humanoid figure who was the subject of a series of American television shows totaling 223 episodes over a 35 year period, animated using stop motion clay animation.
Gumby himself first appeared on the Howdy Doody show in 1956 and was given his own NBC series in 1957.
A Gumby sketch ("Robot Rumpus") was featured on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (The Screaming Skull), and was parodied in one of that episode's host segments, with Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo creating their own version of Gumby, decrying Gumby and Pokey's "mistreatment" (in their eyes) of the robots in the sketch.

Gumby became an enthusiastic fan of theatre and art and "formed the habit" of collecting all the playbills, pictures, and clippings he could find of his favorites.
During those early years in New York, Gumby wrote that it seemed "a willingness to change jobs was a mark of a youth's ambition." A friend told him of a job as a waiter at Columbia and there he began his relationships with a number of professors and students.
Gumby studied other collections in libraries across the U.S. and Canada, and also began collecting rare book editions and manuscripts with the help of his wealthy friend who was a partner in a Wall Street firm.

Gumby soon began to take shape: Clokey's wife suggested the gingerbread man as inspiration; Clokey's favorite color was green, so Gumby was too; the bell-bottom-shaped legs allowed the character to stay upright; and a lump on one side of Gumby's head was styled like the hairdo of Clokey's dad in an old photo.

Gumby was truly one of the best cartoons of Claymation of all time, and for your information....I seem to like the ones with Prickle and Goo and all of the others.
The ones with Gumby and Pokey were okay, but when the new characters were added, I truly appreciated the work of this show, and always will.
Gumby only jumped with the 1988 revival, as said-trhe PC argument being a moot point, by the way, since the ENITRE show might (in terms of violencel, at least) be PC.
