  Cannon
The guns were provided with trunnions so that they could be accurately elevated when mounted in sturdy wooden carriages, or at least with rings for attaching ropes for lifting or restraint.
The trunnions are the cylindrical extensions used to mount the gun in its carriage, and to permit it to be elevated and depressed.
Guns on the weather deck could be aimed more flexibly, and the cannon placed at the bows and the stern were especially valuable to protect the ship from attack from these directions, which were favoured by attackers since they were not then exposed to the ship's broadside.

The ship had a single gun deck with 10 pieces of artillery, and Bonnet named it "The Revenge." Bonnet recruited his gang from local taverns, organizing a band of about 70 men.
Rather than drawing up a contract for the men to sign, as was customary, Bonnet paid his crew a salary from his own pocket.
It is known that Bonnet was pardoned, by some reports Teach suggested he request a pardon, others say it was upon hearing that Britain and Spain were at war that he requested the pardon.

Visible on the ship's after deck is the expedition's largest aircraft, a partially disassembled Curtiss-Wright Condor, which Byrd had named the "William Horlick." The Jacob Rupert was also transporting three smaller aircraft, two Ford snowmobiles, a Cletrac Tractor, and three Citroen vehicles, as well as a sizable yacht for use as a tender.
With waves bursting over the decks, the men were unable to launch the boat, and suddenly it was swept off the ship with most of the crew.
Total complement is 81 officers and men, and the ship's armament is ten 21 inch torpedo tubes, one 5 inch deck gun and one 40mm anti-aircraft gun.
