Onto 0083, now you don't really need to watch any of the previous Gundam shows to watch it, but it may help to look up the story to MSG to get an idea of the backround.
Gundam 0083 has them in every episode, and may I say they are good action scenes.
However, only the "Gundam 0083" meets all of my wishes that a science-fiction OAV must have: a lot of action since the beginning and a bit love between the main characters.

I first encountered gundam almost 13 years ago at a book store where they had, sitting in the sci fi section all 3 of the original novels that gundam is based off of, translated for the first time into english from their native japanese.
0083 is stunning, harsh, and gritty, revolving around a 3 people: Anavel Gatou, ace pilot and commander of the Zion forces, Kou, the experimental unit01 gundam pilot, and Nina, creator of the top secret Gundam's unit 01 and the megalithic unit 02.
Gundam 0080 is about a kid, fascinated by mobile suits, that gets involved in a minor skirmish, and tells how this changes him and his perception of the war.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory
When I watched the first few episodes of GUNDAM 0083: STARDUST MEMORY nearly nine years ago now, I was sitting beside my college roommate, a hardened cynic about anime--the kind of guy who loved sci-fi but could never get past the deadly "cartoons are for kids" mentality.
I honestly think this has to do with the popularity of 0083 as a fansub back in the early 90s; the quality drop that came with multiple VHS tapings meant that older fans never really saw what the animators had in mind.
The original GUNDAM movies and TV show suffered not only because their star (Amuro Ray) was a young teen but also because they employed young children in tow as comic relief.

At least through the first four episodes on this disc, he doesn't see himself as the hands-down pilot of the prototype Gundam, which is a requirement of typical "brashness"; in fact, after the second episode, he returns the "keys" so to speak, and expresses his disappointment at not being able to return the stolen Gundam.

But once versed in the Gundam basics, anime fans will find watching this series to be a rewarding experience: it's anime that has the epic scope and detail of the classic Star Blazers as well as the beautiful painterly qualities and highly detailed animation of the 1990s.
The designers have used a number of tricks of perspective and motion to make the Gundams seem graceful but massive, and uniquely designed but generically military.
