The badge was first created to recognize both the training and hazardous duty or airplane gunners, who served onboard such aircraft as the B-17.
The Gunner Badge appeared as the standard pilot badge, upon which was centered a winged bullet.
Those having received the Gunner Badge were permitted to wear the original decoration until 1950, at which time the badge was no longer authorized for display on an Air Force uniform.

The case I am not sure is the original case to the badge as the case in in excellent condition in reference to the integrity of the construction, but shows signs of wear.

The cliche gunner's badge might be regarded by some as "private purchase" but that's a very slippery slope.
Of the other three badges, I have commented in your other thread that I like the one with the "box" hallmark on the back, and I think the observer badge looks OK, but I have reservations about the one with the screwback conversion.

I would like to believe that the AIF used the same wording on their badge, however all evidence so far points to this not being so.
The inscription on the scroll was 'AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH MILITARY FORCES' until 1949..." unfortunately, photos of troopers wearing this badge are not of sufficient resolution to enable the viewer to read the words on the scroll (the pins were worn on both lapels).
I will go on the assumption that when Hepburn had the badge added to his aircraft he would have had it as seen on the badge.

The Mid Upper Gunner, who occupies a very difficult position so far as breaking-away is concerned, (and in this case who complicated matters for himself by panicing) managed to bale out and is now a prisoner-of-war.
The pilot's position is also much nearer to the escape hatch than the M.U.G. I consider that the aircraft was manageable and the pilot's seat should have been considered safe from fire at least two or three minutes, and would have given ample time for the pilot to bale out.
