Gurabo is a municipality (municipio) in eastern Puerto Rico.
Gurabo's history dates as far back as the 1600s, when Gurabo was actually part of Caguas.
Gurabo is also known as "La Ciudad de las Escaleras", or "city of the stairs", for which Gurabo is known today for.

Gurabo is in east central Puerto Rico in a lake area.
Gurabo is best known for its quaint stairways leading up to the hilltop of the town; but that is just one of many attractios like the Puerto Rico modern Polices Academy (and campus of John Jay College of Criminal Justice), the respected Universidad del Turabo and others.
Gurabo, originally called "Burabo" was a remote and negleted towship of the Municipality of Caguas, Puerto Rico, in the 18th century.

Gurabo is the nearest town east of Caguas on PR road 30, a well maintained expressway.
Gurabo's soils are fertile, adequate for planting of sugar cane and for dairy farming, but much of the land is being earmarked for urban development.
Gurabo's hilly urban terrain made it necessary for early settlers to build long, steep stairways in lieu of streets in certain areas, which accounts for its nickname, Ciudad de las Escaleras, or city of stairs.
