  Gurbax S. Malhi - Definition, explanation
Gurbax Singh Malhi (born October 12, 1949 to a Sikh family in Chugha Kalan, Punjab, India) is a Canadian politician.
Malhi is a devout religious Sikh, and has introduced numerous ceremonies of the Sikh religion to Parliament Hill (including the yearly Akand Path ceremony and the hill's first ever Diwali celebration).
Malhi also attempted to meet with 59 Punjabis being detained in Iran, but was denied a visa by the Iranian government.

Kirtan Singh, Gajinder Chowdhury and some families withdrew from the Society and started holding separate meetings in their homes, but the MSS continued to hold its congregations at the 20 Ashdale Street, Masonic Hall, and Halifax under a new executive with Gurcharan Singh Sidhu as President.
In 1978-79, Pyara Singh Randhawa, a schoolteacher, was elected President of the society.
Pyara Singh was duly honored with a Siropa, robe of honor, presented by Harinder Singh on behalf of the building committee and Sangat on Feb 2, 1997, the day the Gurdwara was reopened for the congregation's use.

Singh was involved in obtaining fraudulent passports in India after police found a briefcase full of passports in the bedroom of his house during execution of a search warrant, according to a court record.
Singh was charged with perjury after he denied in a court appearance in the fraud case that he was the man who was convicted in India in 1995 of trying to get a four-year-old out of the country using a false passport.
Malhi is on tour with Prime Minister Paul Martin, the MP said he had no recollection of writing such a letter, and suggested it could be a forgery.

Interestingly, Mr Navdeep Singh Bains, a young Amritdhari Sikh MP of Canada, is said to be supporting the Bill, while another MP, Ms Ruby Dhalla, is yet to make her stand clear on it.
Dr Kharak Singh, who was a member the Sikh Dharam Parchar Committee of the SGPC that decides about such issues, says that same-sex marriages was an unnatural phenomenon and Sikhism does not approve of it.

Malhi's Brampton-Gore-Malton-Springdale riding association lent a Sikh gurdwara in Mississauga $30,000, and the temple repaid it on Feb. 21, 2002, according to documents obtained by The Globe and Mail.
Malhi came under scrutiny this week after The Globe reported that the RCMP looked into complaints that he misused temporary resident permits for political ends in 2003.
Malhi has strongly denied the allegations and says he never pressed the Indo-Canadian community for donations and political support in exchange for help securing ministerial permits for Indian nationals to visit Canada.
