Guru Nanak, born in 1469 in the Lahore district, married in 1485 with Sulkhani, daughter of Mool Chand, a Khatri of Pakhoke (Dera Baba Nanak) in the Batala Tehsil.
The Chaki Khad is the chief tributary of the Beas in Gurdaspur district.
The salt petre occurs in the district at the villages of Thikriwala, Lamin and Pandori in thesil Gurdaspur and Dhawan, Chataurgarh and Badowal in tehsil Batala.

Gurdaspur Tehsil, a greater portion of Batala Tehsil and 181 villages of Pathankot Tehsil were included in the Adinanagar district.
The descendants of Nawal Rai settled in Gurdaspur Nawal Rai’s son Baba Deep Chand was a contemporary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
The district of Adinanagar was renamed as Gurdaspur.

Batala, the largest town of Gurdaspur district was founded about the year 1465 AD, during the reign of Behlol Lodhi, by Raja Ram Deo, a Bhati Rajput, on a piece of land granted to him by Tatar Khan, Governor of Lahore.
It is 13 miles North-West of Batala and 22 miles from the district headquarter town Gurdaspur on the border of Pakistan.
Dhariwal, a small town of District Gurdaspur was known as Kacha Dhariwal in the begining of the twentieth century.

In 1860, Sheikh Noor Elahi who came from an agrarian background in Gurdaspur established a general store in Dalhousie which was a hill station on the border of Kashmir and Punjab in undivided India and was especially popular with the Muslims of India.
Gurdaspur and its environs, Mumtaz was active in Lahore and Delhi.
In 1947, when it was largely expected that Gurdaspur and Dalhousie would form a part of Pakistan and the flag of Pakistan was hoisted allover Dalhousie and Gurdaspur, it came as a rude shock when the rad cliff award subsequently awarded these areas to India.

GURDASPUR: A convict lodged in Gurdaspur central jail died on Saturday because of alleged neglect by the jail doctor.
While the jail authorities maintained that Harbhajan Singh (90), who had taken ill for the last few days, was rushed to Gurdaspur civil hospital after his condition turned critical, the doctor on emergency duty at civil hospital, Dr Rajesh Lakhanpal said he was brought dead and was not admitted in the hospital.
She said while he died on Saturday morning in the jail, the jail authorities, in order to save their skin, immediately rushed his body to Gurdaspur civil hospital where the hospital authorities refused to admit him as he was brought dead.
