Gurthang is a Belgian (Antwerp) technical yet melodic fl death metal-band, formerly known as 'Ecliptica'.
Gurthang's debut will be a full-cd entitled 'The Irony of Death (Chronicles of a Magical Vengeance and an Inevitable Death)', a real fantasy concept-story.
The rehearsal-room of Gurthang; and besides that the ancient centre of the city is very much worth visiting.

Because of his prowess with Gurthang, he himself became known as the Mormegil (Black Sword), or the Black Sword of Nargothrond.
When Túrin awoke he was told by (additional info and facts about Brandir) Brandir, lord of the (additional info and facts about Haladin) Haladin of Brethil what had happened, and he killed Brandir, refusing to believe.

The Kings of Orrerererery are selected by lot, to rule for the term of their lives, but their power is severely curtailed by a council of seventeen, elected by all property-owning citizens to represent each of the twelve boroughs of the city.
Three avatars of Gurthang are generally recognised, each of which has a small group of vociferous devotees - the demure Jod, three-headed silvery Brom, and ivy-covered Thanatos ‘He of the Rosehip’.
Worship of Gurthang, avatar unspecified, is the practice of most of the city's traditional nobility.

The remaining members also thought GURTHANG suited better to the style they play: fl/death metal.
At this very moment the band is preparing its first release, a full-cd entitled 'The Irony of Death (Chronicles of a Magical Vengeance and an Inevitable Death)', a real fantasy concept-story.
So now GURTHANG is preparing the recording sessions for their full-length cd.
Gurthang,, "Death Iron" was the name given by Turin to the fl sword formely known as Anglachel.
I might even put forth that the metal which Gurthang was made of had the ability to amplify and/or incarnate or manifest feelings and spiritual traits.
But I also think that it would be totally "un-Tolkien like" for him to have meant for Gurthang's statement to be something other than that which it was protrayed.
A completely different color study would of course have to be produced for the Black Sword, but the character of the sword would also have to change.
This may sound odd as the lines and design for Anglachel and Gurthang are identical, but I feel that the grayscale drawing is only a glimpse of the weapon, color provides the character, and Gurthang’s character is as far removed from Anglachel’s as Valinor is from Middle-earth.
The changes for Gurthang amounted to adding large amounts of fl and basically grunging up the blade.
Beleg Strongbow was struck down by Turin Turambar, who used Gurthang on him, mistaking Beleg for an orc.
Turin slew Glaurung with Gurthang, as well as Brandir and many others, and alas impaled himself upon its cold fl edge.
The sheer sadness of the story and the obvious cold and dark will of the sword (a remnant of the will of Eol its master) is what makes it so interesting to me. No other swords can compare to it personality-wise, save maybe Glamdring, the sword of Turgon wielded later by Gandalf.
While Beleg was a mighty Elf to bear the sword, Turin was the mightier.
He used the sword to great fame, re-naming it Gurthang, Iron of Death.
For all the mighty of Turin, Gurthang is the sword of least import among these great three (Although it is more important than perhaps every other sword in the history of Middle-earth) because although it slayed Glaurung, it also did Morgoth's bidding for him, claiming the lives of Beleg, Brandir, and eventually Turin himself.
This is just an obsevation, and I am sorry of this does not answer your question, but perhaps this also applies to Sting's properties; it has the ability to glow.
It would make sense that whoever made the object would have put some of their own power into it.
But Gurthang appears to display a sentience that is independent of the one who made it.
Kit said that Gurthang was a favourite of him, I for myself would be glad to own Ringil, fingolfin's sword.
10-07-2003 03:02 PM Oh that would be absolutely fantastic, that is if the style suits me. I'd like to see Angrist, and they could do Anguirel to go with Anglachel (later Gurthang), or maybe not...
Gurthang would have to be something *very* special, if it's nice there's a chance I'd purchase and I think many swordcollectors/tolkien readers with me.

Many have said that Turin's Black Sword Gurthang would be a big heavy two handed sword.

It's very similiar to UK law Gurthang, with much greater tolerance in more rural areas.
I'm sure Zackerty will be along soon to clarify further.
