A similar interpretation describes the guru as the one that "removes the darkness of ignorance" is based on the Guru Gītā (literally "song of the spiritual teacher"), a spiritual text describing a dialogue between Śiva and his consort Pārvatī on the nature of the guru and the guru/disciple relationship.

Guru Nanak Sahib (the First Nanak, the founder of Sikhism) was born on 20th October, 1469 at Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi in the present distrect of Shekhupura (Pakistan), now Nanakana Sahib.

It is said to be the ashram of Rishi Valmiki and venue of Asvamedha yagya of Lord Rama.
Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh guru stayed here on his way to Delhi and a fort like gurudwara was built in his memory.
