The Okinawa Isshinryu Karate Kobudo Association (OIKKA) founded by Uezu Angi in 1990 and taken over by Uechi Tsuyoshi upon Uezu's retirement in late 1995, also teaches what is known as Nunchaku Kihongata, a basic form for the nunchaku.
This kata is the same as found in Sakagami Ryusho's booklet Nunchaku (1966), and teaches the basic aya-furi (figure-8) and reverse figure-8 swinging pattern of this formidable weapon.

The Okinawa Chorus, a group of 30 American, Japanese and Mexican singers, have practiced every Monday for the past five months for the annual concerts Friday and Saturday in Gushikawa and on Camp Foster.
The other singers are Japanese, both from Okinawa and the mainland.
The international chorus is the brainchild of George Novinger, of the American Consulate General’s office on Okinawa, who formed the group last year when Okinawa hosted the Group of Eight Summit.

I was visiting relatives in Okinawa last month and enjoyed the various sights to see throughout the island and soak up some of the culture, Okinawa is a beautiful place to visit.
I chose Okinawa because i want to study karate, so if anybody has any info or advice on finding a good dojo (my area of interest is strongly practical karate, that really teaches me how to fight, tho i also enjoy kata and ki and athletic kicking) plkease email me with the details.

After the Satuma evasion in 1609, the King of Okinawa, Sho Nei, along with other high ranking officials who were prisoners, were taken to the Satuma conquerors to sign an oath of allegiance.
Historically accurate or not, it is a good story that is passed on since the Satsuma evasion of 1609.
