He was created Count of Nystad and introuduced in 1647, and received Wildeshausen as his own fief after it had been won by Sweden at the Peace of Westphalia, in 1648.

Wildeshausen is the capital of the Oldenburg district in north western Germany, located by the river Hunte.
In 1648 Wildeshausen and the surrounding district was ceded to Sweden, in the Peace of Westphalia, where it given as a fief to Gustav Gustavsson af Vasaborg, an illigitimate son of King Gustavus Adolphus, as a part of the Swedish Dominion of Bremen-Verden.
In 1679, following the Treaty of Nijmegen, it was pawned, to the Prince-Bishop of Münster, in exchange for a loan of 100,000 Riksdaler.

Gustav Gustavsson af Vasaborg föddes den 24 april 1616 som utomäktenskaplig son till Gustav II Adolf (22) och Margareta Slots (-1669).
I november 1632, han var då sexton år gammal, stupade hans far Gustav II Adolf vid Lützen, och två månader senare, i januari 1633, la han ner rektoratet och begav sig till den svenska armén där han samma år utnämndes till överste för ett livländskt kavalleriregemente och kommendant i Osnabrück i Tyskland.
Gustav dog 37 år gammal, den 25 oktober 1653, i Wildeshausen i Tyskland men han begravdes i Riddarholmskyrkan i Stockholm.
