Anton Friedrich Justus Thibaut - LoveToKnow 1911
At the invitation of the grand-duke of Baden he went to Heidelberg to fill the chair of civil law and to assist in organizing the university; and he never quitted that town, though he received in after years, as his fame grew, invitations to Göttingen, Munich and Leipzig.
His class was large, his influence great; and, except Gustav Hugo and Savigny, no civilian of his time was so well known.
He was one of the earliest to criticize the divisions found in the Institutes, and he carried on with Gustav Hugo a controversy as to these points.

After studies with the famous music theoretician Hugo Riemann (1890 — 1895) Reger suffered in consequence of his military service and of professional setbacks a nervous and material breakdown and returned in 1898 to the parental home.
There Reger's productivity increased enormously until he was able to persuade his family in 1901 to move to Munich where he expected more musical stimulation than in the Upper Palatinate.

Eric H. Reiter | Imported Books, Imported Ideas: Reading European Jurisprudence in Mid-Nineteenth-Century Quebec | Law ...
In the early 1860s, during his tenure as one of the commissioners working to codify Quebec private law, Augustin-Norbert Morin compiled a lengthy bibliography of foreign works on law and jurisprudence, filled with obscure German titles from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
Moreover, though the majority of titles listed are in German, Morin himself apparently could not read the language and so relied on his French sources both to translate the works' titles and to situate them in particular legal schools.
Jourdan also managed to get contributions from leading German lights themselves, such as Gustav Hugo and Savigny, as well as advance printing of translations of new German works by Savigny and others.

The story of the development of legal science in Germany in this era is well known, but some comment on it is necessary because of its significance in the life of Muirhead.
The initial figure of importance in the German Historical School was Gustav Hugo, Professor of Roman Law at Göttingen, but the most prominent individual associated with it was to be Carl von Savigny, who held a chair in Berlin from 1810.
The Historical School moved the focus of the study of Roman law back to a concentration on the ancient texts.
