		Zeuner erhielt die entscheidenden Impulse für seine spätere Dresdner Tätigkeit.
		Zeuners Wirken als Direktor des Dresdner Polytechnikums wurde für die innere und äußere Entwicklung der Schule bedeutungsvoll.
		Damit erfolgte gewissermaßen eine Gleichstellung mit den Universitäten, wenn auch das Promotionsrecht erst nach weiteren zehn Jahren erteilt wurde.

	An essay on the front-end
		One of the firsts to start research was Gustav Zeuner, then a professor at the Technical University of Zürich, Switzerland.
		In 1858 he used a little model of a locomotive front end in which he used different combinations of exhaust pipes, chimneys and pipes to the smokebox to draw air through.
		In 1912 Strahl used the theory of Zeuner again, modified it for practical application and defined the resistance through the firegrate and the boiler tubes.

		1853 promovierte Zeuner in Leipzig über das Foucaultsche Pendel, mit dem er sich während seines Aufenthaltes in Paris eingehend befasst hatte.
		Von diesem Posten trat er jedoch nach drei Jahren zurück, um mehr Zeit für seine wissenschaftliche Arbeit zu haben.
		Als Julius Weisbach 1871 starb, ging Gustav Zeuner zurück nach Freiberg, um an der Bergakademie die Professur für Mechanik und Bergmaschinenlehre zu übernehmen.

		This result seemed to have escaped notice; the tests of Zeuner have always been listed as insignificant because he used very small sized orifices, 10 and 14,14 mm, unrealistic backpressures and very wide chimneys.
		Please note that the Zeuner relation between both masses and the areas means that the smaller, better performing, orifice needs a larger chimney area, not a modelled one.
		All these three historical researches used steam with constant pressure in their models and regardless of differences in the model layout arrived at the same conclusion: A half area orifice can create a vacuum of at least 70% of that of the original orifice.
