KUMPULAN Guthrie Bhd has defended its decision to stake its future in Indonesia as the kind of forward thinking that could well double its earnings per share (EPS) in the near future.
Guthrie, he said, was now working to accelerate its total crude palm oil (CPO) production to one million tonnes annually from about 500,000 tonnes at present, with the Minamas plantations to contribute about two thirds of output.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former group chief executive officer of Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim on Tuesday filed a suit against Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad pertaining to his claim for his right to purchase the remaining 135 million Kumpulan Guthrie shares.
It was reported that the non-renewal of Khalid's contract was due to him not seeing eye to eye with some of the top echelon of PNB, of which he was the CEO before heading Guthrie.
At the same time he was appointed CEO of Guthrie after stepping down asPNB CEO in what was seen as a "reward" for leading the so-called "dawn raid" -- lightning purchases of Guthrie Corporation shares at the opening of trading on the London stock market and thus wresting control of Guthrie from its British owners.
