  Guy Banister - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
William Guy Banister (March 7, 1901–June 6, 1964) was a private investigator alleged by New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison to have been involved in the Assassination of John F. Kennedy.
Banister moved to Louisiana and in January 1955 became Assistant Superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department, where he was given the task of investigating organized crime and corruption within the police force.
Guy Banister died of coronary thrombosis on June 6, 1964.

In the early 1960s he was an associate of Guy Banister, a former FBI agent, New Orleans police official, political activist and private investigator.
Martin claimed that during the summer of 1963 Ferrie and Guy Banister were involved in something very sinister with a group of Cuban exiles.
Jim Garrison now became convinced that a group of right-wing activists, including Ferrie, Guy Banister, Carlos Bringuier and Clay Shaw, were involved in a conspiracy with the CIA to kill John F. Kennedy.

According to an autobiographical sketch, William Guy Banister was born in a log cabin in Monroe, Louisiana, on March 7, 1901.
Banister's brother Ross told A. Weberman in 1993 that he suspected some of Guy's difficulties with his superiors stemmed from "sort of secret detective work" he was doing on his own, and as his problems increased, so did his drinking.

The Banister files were reputed to be the largest collection of "anti- communist intelligence" in Louisiana, and part were sold by his widow to the Sovereignty Commission, a sort of state HUAC, where a Garrison investigator was able to examine them.
