Not willing to remain in a creative holding pattern, Cirque founder Guy Lalibert‚ is plunging Cirque into untested waters with the August opening of Zumanity, which moves Cirque away from its traditional-and hugely successful-family fare.
A new employee at the time, Heward remembers brainstorming with Lalibert‚ and other circus staff to come up with a knock-out 10th anniversary show that, almost nine years on, is still wowing audiences.
Lalibert‚, who probably doesn't have the phrase "that's impossible" in his vocabulary, challenged his team to create a system whereby the acrobatic performers could tumble without breaking a nail.
