  Korean Architecture: Gwacheon Hyanggyo, Gyeonggi-do
This Confucian school was first established in Gwacheon in 1398 by Yeol, a follower of the High Priest Muhakdaesa.
It was burnt down in 1400 and later reconstructed.
It was once again reconstructed sometime in the early 17th century and moved here in 1690 by the chief officer of Gwacheon.

The old Namtaeryeong pass connecting from Gwanmun Square in Gwacheon with Sadang-dong area of Seoul has been the major passage to enter Seoul for travelers on foot and products from the southern provinces.
Bandits often raided here, and many travelers who felt as if bewitched by a fox, it earned a name, “fox pass.” Consequently travelers usually grouped to 50 and passed under the escort of county guards.
On the other hand, opening the first way at the southern part of Seoul, Namtaeryeong carries the meaning, “the major south path of Seoul.” Today, the old pass is restored with sandy soil, led from the left hand-side of the highway in Sadang-dong, Seoul, to Gwacheon.

A bicycle path connecting the city of Gwacheon in Gyeonggi province to Seoul’s Seocho district opened Sunday that gives Gwacheon residents a new commuting option.
“According to a survey, 60 to 70 percent of Gwacheon residents commute to Seoul, and among students and young business workers, quite a number of them are considering using a bicycle,” said Gwacheon Mayor Yeo In-guk.
