Gwenwynwyn: a Cymric Mabinogion Hero (Thrice-blessed)
Gwenwynwyn is another rather shadwoy figure, a legendary figure who survives in references in the tale of Culhwch ac Olwen and in triads 14 and 35 of the Trioedd Ynys Prydein.
Triad 14 of Trioedd Ynys Prydein describes Gwenwynwyn mab Naf as one of the 'Three Seafarers of the Island of Britain'.
Here Gwenwynwyn is a member of the host of Caswallon, along with Gwnar his brother, both being the sons of Lliaws son of Nwyfre.

 Gwenwynwyn
Gwenwynwyn was the last major ruler of south Wales before the completion of the Norman Conquest.
King John favoured Gwenwynwyn until a marriage alliance was made between Llywelyn and John's illegitimate daughter.
Gwenwynwyn did not get his territory back for two years, but his resentment towards the English led him into an alliance with Llywelyn, which lasted from 1212 until 1216, when John restored some of Gwenwynwyn's property and the two princes fell out again.

This triad names both Gwenwynwyn and his brother, Gwnar as the sons of Lliaws mab Nwyfre and Arianrhod daughter of Beli.
Gwenwynwyn has already been described as the son of Naf, which presents us with a problem.
