Erdini Qoigyijabu, 11th Panchen Lama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Erdini Qoigyijabu (Tibetan: ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྒྱལ་པོ་ Wylie: Chos kyi rgyal-po, Chinese: 确吉杰布; born February 13, 1990 with the name Gyancain Norbu, or Gyaincain Norbu [རྒྱལ་མཚན་ནོར་བུ་ Wylie: Rgyal-mtshan Nor-bu]) is, according to the government of the People's Republic of China, the eleventh incarnation of the Panchen Lama of Tibet.
The Dalai Lama and the Government of Tibet in Exile, along with almost all of the Panchen Lama's followers outside of mainland China, on the other hand, hold that Gedhun Choekyi Nyima is the 11th Panchen Lama.
Using the Urn, Gyancain Norbu, a six-year-old child from Lhari County, Tibet Autonomous Region, was selected and proclaimed the Panchen Lama, with the religious name Erdini Qoigyijabu.

Gyancain Norbu is recognised by China as the 11th Panchen Lama but his status is disputed by the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.
In 1995, the Chinese Government forced Tibetan monks to appoint Gyancain Norbu rather than the Dalai Lama's candidate - Gedhun Choekyi Nyima - in an attempt to further exert its authority over Tibet.
But Gyancain Norbu enjoys little support among Tibetans, who disparagingly refer to him as "the Chinese Panchen", or "Jiang Zemin's Panchen".
