Established in 1395, Gyeongbok Palace is also called “Northern Palace” because it is located more toward the north compared to Changdeok Palace (Eastern Palace) and Gyeonghee Palace (Western Palace).
Gyeongbok Palace (No.117 Historical Number) prides itself for having the largest magnitude and being the most beautiful among the 5 other palaces.
It was destroyed by a fire during the Japanese Invasion of Korea (1592-1598) but the Palace (7.700 rooms) was later restored under the leadership of Heungseondaewongun in the years of King Gojong (1852~1919).

It also aims to restore Gwanghwamun, the front gate of Gyeongbok Palace, and demilitarize some of the mountainous area around the presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae, north of the palace.
When these buildings are relocated to the Yongsan district and the new administrative town in South Chungcheong Province in the next several years, according to a government plan, new museums and public parks are planned for the district, officials said.

This was taken at the Gyeongbok palace, I just admired the architecture, it was marvellous and I just wanted to share with you the sheer bright and colourful shot of the roof.
Built at the beginning of the Chosun Dynasty when the Yi Dynasty moved the capital to Seoul, this palace remained the main seat of power for Korea kings throughout much of the time to the present.
The main gate (Kwanghwa-mun) separates Gyeongbok Palace from one of the busiest areas of Seoul.

The Japanese Capital Building was destroyed in 1995 in fulfillment of a campaign pledge by President Kim Yon-sam.

The Changdeok Palace was constructed in the fifth year of king Taejog's reign(year 1405) as a detached palace of the Gyeongbok Place, the Joseon Dynasty's main palace.
The Changdeok Palace was home to the kings for a longer period than the Gyeongbok Palace.
Much of the palace was burnt down during the Japanese invasion in 1592 and the first restoration of the palace was started by King Sunjo and completed by Gwanghaegun.
