		Daejeon, Cheongju, Cheonan, Nonsan and Gongju, all cities along the Geumgang River, will be subject to a total water pollution load policy beginning this year in an effort to improve water quality by 2010 through better management of pollution sources, the Ministry of Environment said Monday.
		Under the policy, Daejeon is required to improve its water quality at Gapcheon River from the current botanical oxygen demand (BOD) reading of 6.8mg/liter to 5.9mg/liter, North Chungcheong Province from BOD 6.7 to 4.3, and Gongju and Gyeryong in South Chungcheong Province from BOD 3.0 to below 3.0 by the target year of 2010.
		The ministry said that it approved basic plans for total water pollution load management submitted by Daejeon and South and North Chungcheong Provinces, through which the Geumgang River flows.
