haho   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
The HAHO technique is used to airdrop personnel at high altitudes when aircrafts can fly above enemy skies without posing a threat to the jumpers.
In a typical HAHO exercise, the parachuter will jump from the aircraft and deploy his parachute at a high altitude, 10–15 seconds later after the jump (typically at 27,000 feet or so).
The HAHO technique is also used for delivering military teams.

PR&F News: Bristish high-altitude parachute   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
HAHO, by contrast, allows the jump aircraft to deliver its cargo from a significant standoff range, thereby reducing the odds of enemy detection and increasing the survivability of the aircraft and the parachutists.
The higher the parachute-opening altitude and the flatter the glide slope of the parachute, the greater the standoff distance attainable.
Because a HAHO team may travel more than 40 miles under their canopies, a common rate of descent is a critical factor in keeping the team together.

HALO/HAHO - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HALO/HAHO is a term used by the United States armed forces to describe a method of delivering personnel, equipment, and supplies from a transport aircraft at a high altitude via free-fall parachute insertion.
The main difference between the two techniques is that in the HALO technique, the parachutist opens his parachute at a low altitude after being free-falling for a period of time, while in the HAHO technique, the parachutist opens his parachute at a high altitude just a few seconds after jumping from the aircraft.
In a typical HAHO exercise, the jumper will jump from the aircraft and deploy his parachute at a high altitude, 10–15 seconds later after the jump (typically at 27,000 feet or so).

Dan Meadows's Airborne FAQ   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) and HAHO (High Altitude, High Opening) parachuting is usually performed by small units (such as Special Forces teams) in their specialized missions.
The aircraft flies at high altitudes to reduce the chances of detection or being shot down, and the soldiers either deploy their steerable 'chutes at low altitude if they jumped nearly over the objective or high altitude if they have to steer toward a distant objective.
A HAHO jumper can travel several ground miles with his specialized, steerable 'chute as he descends, depending on his initial altitude.

H.A.H.O. High Altitude/High Opening jumping is an extremely difficult form of insertion which requires a tremendous amount of training as an individual and team.
A typical HAHO profile has a squad jumping out of either a commercial aircraft or military craft with a commercial IFF signature in the normal air traffic lanes so as to not raise suspicion.
The jumpers will exit the aircraft at a high altitude - say 30,000 feet, and deploy their parachutes in ten to fifteen seconds at an altitude of 27,000 feet or so.

In year 3 the formula is: 5.000 x 100% + 5.000 x 80% + 5.000 x 60% = 12.000 etc. We find out that after 5 year a 15.000 inhabitants are not in HAHO-condition and that this amount remains the same the next year.

High altitude parachute jumps are sometimes performed by Special Operations Forces as a means of infiltration which they call "HALO" or "HAHO." These forces include Army Green Berets, Navy SEALs and Marine Corps Force Recon.
There is also "HAHO" for High Altitude High Opening where the jumpers open at a high altitude like 25,000 feet, and glide long distances to the landing area (sport skydivers call this cross country).
Military skydiving rigs are known as HAPPS (High Altitude Precision Parachute System) or "stealth parachutes" because they cannot easily be seen from the ground.
