The pellet rifle is about the same general size as the firearm, but not quite as heavy, and there is no provision for a bayonet that some other military trainers have.
The Hakim air rifle trainer is big and heavy, as was the 7.92mm semi-auto on which it was based.
We presume the purpose of the air rifle was to promote rifle marksmanship, and at least one report has said that the basis of issue was one per company.

I didn't think the rifle would be that "modern" as to be used in the Middle East right now.
Because the rifle could not be left behind where it would be recovered by bad guys, this SF trooper humped it back and brought it home as a war trophy.
I have not heard of Hakims being captured in Iraq, but have seen scores of M-48 Yugo Mausers, normally the BO-stamped "sterile" rifles produced for Egypt.

 Fn 49 Vs. Hakim - THR
Only somewhat familiar with Hakim (fired it once) but FN49 seems to be slightly lighter/better balanced, less loud (no muzzle brake) and parts are easier to get.
The Hakim is nice and I'm looking to buy one, I have its little brother the Rasheed in 7.62X39 that the Egyptians made in the 50's.
It has to be one of the ugliest rifle made in the 20th century.

All parts that are numbered match, including the reciever, action cover, ejector, firing pin, bolt lugs, and gas tube.

As I mentioned on the Hakim survey thread, our discussion forums are an excellent way to gather data (as was proven by my 3-year long FN-49 survey) but, unfortunately, the forums are less ideal for the retention of knowledge....
The owner of rifle #210x did not give the last digit of the serial number but you can see that the split between 1966 and 1967 is within 5 rifles.
