Herbert S. Hasell, ME '90, of Jacksonville, Fla., received the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal for his participation in a helicopter rescue last summer.
Hasell, a Navy lieutenant and helicopter pilot, was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier John C. Stennis, when he got a call from the Coast Guard saying they had found a locator beacon in a raft about 150 miles away from the carrier.
Currently, Hasell is preparing to sail to the Persian Gulf.

When he practices them for himself the HASELL check will be automatic and the time he has just done some slow flying, thought he would practice a couple of steep turns, and forgotten to retract the flaps he might be grateful.
HASELL checks are of course necessary for other manouevers, but are contrary to the point of this excercise.
HASELL checks are NOT required before flying steep turns UNLESS the FI intends to include manoeuvre stalling as part of the exercise, in my opinion.

From Merivale, one of Christchurch's oldest clubs, Hasell was an All Black both before and after World War I. A lively hooker in the old 2-3-2 scrum formation, Hasell played in the second and third tests against Australia in 1913 when another All Black selection was on its way to tour California.
Included in Hasell's 41 appearances were Ranfurly Shield challenges against Auckland in 1910, Taranaki in 1914 and Wellington in 1920.
Unusually for a forward Hasell was a competent goalkicker and one of his specialties was to kick goals from marks, a method of scoring which has become obsolete in the modern game because marks can now be only inside the 22.

The parsonage at 217 St. Margaret Street was sold and monies used to restore the antebellum 50 Hasell Street parsonage for $25,500.

As to the last matter, the evidence is that Hasell was instructed by Mr Crawford to skim off creosote from the pond regularly, and that it in fact did so from time to time.
