The WT610 is equipped for HDTV and their high contrast ratio delivers needle sharp images for presentations or Point of Sale (POS) and has the capabilities to project 52 megabit streaming video clips giving real time animation with a presentation.
HDDVD, which uses blue laser optics instead of red, has a considerably shorter wave length, allows data to be written more compactly and at a higher volume.
NECs HDDVD drive will allow the consumer optimum comfort by giving the ability to record and play all three generations of discs, CD, DVD and HDDVD.

So yer the Blue ray disc has more space, but the main point of me posting is the fact there is a war going on with films being put onto HDDVD's or Blueray's.
If the films were put on HDDVD this would be bad news for PS3 as they have worked on there DVD software to work with Bluerays.
2: HDDVD sounding more high def is pretty stupid to say because it is high definition, it's right in the name.

However, as concerned as we both are, unless either of us plan on buying a player in the first year they debut, we won't have to worry about it for a long time.
Either way, being that the "battle" won't begin until Sony brings their player out (a year after HDDVD's debut) the battle between the two might go on for a year or two after that before one or the other side relents.
HDDVD will have a full year to sell HDDVD players to people, and market their technology.

Currently there are limited number of tv sets compatible with 1080p, so Toshiba went with interlaced format to avoid compatibility issues, or to take full advantage of what's available out there.
supporting HDDVD format -one of them Toshiba, the "inventor" of HDDVD, and the other is LG-, there are dozen manufacturers expected to support Blu-Ray format.
HDDVD supporter studios include Paramount, Universal and Warner, and on the Blu-Ray side, we see Disney, 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures and Lionsgate.

VideoHelp.com Forum Archive - Making HDDVD on DVD D/L
I may be wrong but I doubt that current dvd players will play 720/1080 signals accurately as their proccessing configuration may not be setup to do so.
Just to expand a little more, I was wondering if it was worth taking my DV (not HDV) tapes and encoding with H264 into a pseudo HDDVD so that I can keep the disk images as an archive and trash the.DV files to free up some disk space.
The workflow I was thinking of was to produce a 'normal' (mpg2) DVD and a 'HDDVD' from the same.dv file (it's not HD source) then delete the.dv to free up space.

DailyTech - Toshiba HD-DVD Players Shipping (Finally)
Although I don't claim to be an expert on the issue, my understanding of the two formats isn't that great and I've read somethings about HDDVD that make it sound not as obviously inferior as I once thought it would be.
In the beginning, if we choose one format (bluray) we will have more choices of movies to watch, but we will still be unable to watch a whole slew of movies and will be raped on costs of hardware and software.
If we choose the other format (HDdvd), we will save money on hardware and software, but will be hosed as far as movie selection is concerned.

Analyst Report: Xbox 360 To OutSell PS3 Through 2008 - GameDev.Net Discussion Forums
IMO, If they make HDDVD an upgrade it will never, and shouldn't, be used for game content, only HDDVD movies.
HDDVD movie playback is more of an add-on feature though, so I see that as ok.
A parent buying a 360 will understand that HD movies are an upgrade, but they'll be very unhappy if they have to upgrade their 360 to play certain 360 games, and they'll feel screwed if the same game is available on standard discs but with less content, lower res visuals, or what-have-you.

I think HDDVD is going to be a more wider accepted standard.
It has to be a comparable package, and you have to add the cost of the HDDVD drive on to the $873.57 USD because the PS3 comes WITH a next gen DVD player in the price.
It's perfectly fair that the hddvd player price should be included if there is to be a comparison.

Toshiba taking $200 loss on each HD-A1, sez iSuppli - Engadget
Unfortunately for those of us waiting on a burner to hit the market before making the HD optical plunge, it doesn't sound like Toshiba will also be willing take a loss on that RD-A1 introduced the other day, as its $3,400 pricetag seems to more than cover every little component they're stuffing in there.
Contrairly(sp?) wise HDDVD is of course visualy the same, but its the clear winner in cost, whether you go 360 external OR stand alone console player.
Personally I think the HDDVD camp should just go balls to wall and play their strategy of price to the hilt.

With SACD its not very easy to tell the difference between an SACD and a standard one (unless the SACD is 5.1),but HDDVD and BR should have an immediately noticeable improvement over DVD.
The main difference is that at least one out of HDDVD and BR should become the de-facto recording standard for Hi-Def,whereas its quite likely that SACD is going to eventually join the format graveyard where DVD-Audio already has a plot booked up
At that time it appeared they had the sense to see what a success DVD was, itself also heading into a format war before the opposing sides merged their ideas.

It would appear that the boys on the Bluray camp have decided to require AACS on the DVD-R to use it.
In the end it's gonna come down to price, with the HDDVD discs already lowering there prices and the XA1 for 500$ compared to the bluray from Samsung at 1000$ and with similar features between the two (and as i've said even some missing features) the end just doesn't justify the means.
