  HMAS Adelaide (1918) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HMAS Adelaide was a Town-class light cruiser of the Royal Australian Navy, named after Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia.
She was laid down by HMA Naval Dockyard at Cockatoo Island, Sydney on November 20, 1915 and launched on July 27, 1918 by Lady Helen Munro Ferguson, the wife of the Governor-General.
Adelaide was paid off on May 13, 1946 and was sold to Australian Iron and Steel Pty Ltd January 24, 1949.

HMAS Adelaide was welcomed home by Minister for Environment and Heritage Senator Ian Campbell, on behalf of the Defence Minister Robert Hill, and Maritime Commander Rear Admiral Rowan Moffitt.
Senator Hill said HMAS Adelaide spent six months deployed in the Persian Gulf along with other coalition forces assisting with the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq.
"HMAS Adelaide and her ship’s company have successfully completed a deployment of six months to the Persian Gulf where she made a significant contribution to Australia’s Whole of Government efforts for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Iraq," Senator Hill said.

HMAS ADELAIDE (FFG-01) is a long-range escort frigate with roles including area air defence, anti-submarine warfare, surveillance, reconnaissance, and interdiction.
ADELAIDE is equipped with a number of sensors that include long range radars for air and surface surveillance, electronic warfare and optical surveillance systems, a medium range sonar and a command and control system, that can incorporate target data received by data link from other ships and aircraft.

HMAS Bataan (D-9/D-191) was a Tribal class destroyer laid down by Cockatoo Docks and Company Limited at Sydney in New South Wales on 18 February 1942 launched on 15 January 1944 by Mrs.
HMAS Bataan paid off at Sydney 18 October 1954 and was laid up in reserve conversion to an anti-submarine escort but this cancelled in 1957 was placed on the disposal list sold for scrap to Mitsubishi Shoji Kaisha of Tokyo on 2 May 1958.
Note: The ship was originally to been named Kurnai after an Australian aboriginal but was renamed Bataan in honour of General Douglas MacArthur a gesture to the United States for one of their ships USS Canberra.

These were the "Chatham" class light cruiser HMAS Adelaide, the "County" class cruisers Australia, (flagship) and Canberra, the "Amphion" Class cruisers Sydney, Perth, Hobart and the "County" Class cruiser Shropshire, transferred from Britain in 1943 as replacement for war losses Sydney, Perth, and Canberra.
HMAS Canberra ("Kent" type) spent her entire war career in Australian waters and the Indian Ocean on patrol and escort duties.
Adelaide gave great assistance in the overthrow of this government and the establishment of a De Gaullist one - all without firing a shot, to the great credit of her captain, Captain H A Showers.

This was an obligation carried by the HMAS Adelaide last September as it steamed towards the Australian territory of Christmas Island, 360 kilometres south of Java.
The Adelaide, a guided-missile frigate designed to sink other warships, was assigned to patrol the seas between Christmas Island and Java as the smaller and cheaper patrol boats couldn't berth at Christmas Island and didn't have the range to operate from the mainland.
The aircraft radioed the Adelaide, gave it a precise location and said that 50 people were on the deck of the boat and that the passengers were wearing life jackets.
