HMAS Ardent is preserved as a memorial in Darwin, where HMAS Arrow was destroyed by Cyclone Tracy in 1974.
HMAS Aitape was sunk as a dive wreck off Port Moresby in 1995.
HMAS Bayonet was scuttled in Bass Strait in 1999 and has been successfully dived.

The HMAS AUSTRALIA, later was attacked and hit again FIVE times by Kamikaze aircraft in 1944-1945 - attaining the uneviable record surviving the most number of Kamikaze strikes on any one ship during the Second World War.
In March 1944 he assumed command of HMAS Australia and took part in the Hollandia landings and the bombardment of Wakde and Aitape, and the landings at Biak, Noemfoor and Morotai.

For heroic action and signal leadership on 23 July, Sgt. Ray E. Eubanks, a squad leader of Company D, 503d Parachute Infantry (Company D was in the 2d Battalion), was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

HMAS Ardent (P 84) was an Attack-class patrol boat laid down by Evans Deakin and Company at Brisbane in Queensland in October 1967, launched on 27 April 1968 and commissioned on 26 October 1968.
Ardent was transferred to the Hobart Port Division of the Royal Australian Navy Reserve on 18 June 1982 and paid off on 6 January 1994.

An impediment to the writing of RAAF unit histories is that air force recruits may have done initial training, elementary flying and service flying together, and developed a group or “muster” sense, but that was diminished on posting to various operational squadrons.
For these reasons, plus the separation of functions within a squadron, squadrons have generally not had the strong sense of coherence felt by those soldiers who went into a battalion on its formation, and trained and fought in that one battalion.
In the south where mission stations were not occupied by the Japanese those missionaries who wrote of that period (P. Chatterton and A. Dupeyrat) or were written about (Bert Brown) have disclosed little about the war.
