  HMAS BARWON - HMA Ship Histories (Sea Power Centre - Australia)
BARWON commissioned at Sydney on 10 December 1945 under the command of Lieutenant Commander Algernon G. Rose RANR(S).
BARWON returned to Darwin where she was engaged in various duties, including the dumping of obsolete ammunition and inspection of coastal lights.
BARWON was sold as scrap to H.C. Sleigh for Mitsubishi (Australia) Pty Ltd. She was later resold to the Japanese firm Amakasu Sangyo Kisen Co Ltd.

 Geelong Heritage - Historic Characters
Flinders headed back to England in July 1803 but the ship he was a passenger on, HMAS Porpoise, was wrecked off the Queensland coast the following month.
He established his first mechanical ice-making machine on the banks of the Barwon River, Geelong, at a place known as Rocky Point, in 1851.
She had owned land in Scotland and took up a squatter's licence on property in the Geelong region, at Breakwater.

It was a case of courage and Aussie spirit on the line when ship’s company of HMAS Anzac took to the sporting grounds of Glasgow last week.

During this period TS Barwon was to become one of the more successful NRC units in the country.
However, after just two weeks of leave he was posted to HMAS Adelaide, which was engaged in convoy escort and patrol work.

Her remains are believed to lie somewhere in the eastern approaches to Bass Strait, possibly south of Gabo Island off the east Gippsland coast.
Carrying a crew of twenty-one and more than 3,000 tons of coal, left Port Kembla for Albany in March 1901, and was last seen by the crew of SS Melbourne on 21 March 1901 heading into heavy weather south east of Gabo Island.
In 1919, when the tug James Paterson and the old steamer H.M.A.S. Coogee were clearing the German raider Wolf's minefield near Gabo Island, they were about four nautical miles off shore, midway between Ram Head and Point Hicks when the mine sweep fouled a submerged object.

Her seven sister ships also built in Australia were Barcoo, Barwon, Burdekin, Gascoyne, Hawkesbury, Lachlan and Macquarie.
In September 1980, Diamantina was presented to the Q.M.M.A. and steamed to Brisbane in October of that year, being placed in the Dry Dock at South Brisbane.
