HMAS Latrobe (J-234/M-234), named for the town of Latrobe, Tasmania, was a Bathurst class corvette laid down by Morts Dock and Engineering at Balmain in New South Wales on 27 January 1942.
In March 1953 she was transferred to the control of Williamstown Dockyard and placed in the reserve fleet in September 1953.
HMAS Latrobe was sold for scrap to the Hong Kong Rolling Mills on 18 May 1956.

HMAS BENDIGO was one of sixty Australian Minesweepers (commonly known as corvettes) built during World War II in Australian shipyards as part of the Commonwealth Government’s wartime shipbuilding programme.
BENDIGO departed Sydney on 4 July 1941 and began her active war career in the Darwin area where she remained for a period of two months.
BENDIGO anchored in Batavia Roads at 1245 on 14 February 1942 and remained awaiting instructions until 18 February when she moved to the Outer Roads to give anti-submarine protection to incoming ships.

HMAS Vampire leaves Batavia for East Indies Station, she escorts two ships of trade Melchior Treub (3,242 tons) and Ophir (4,115 tons) to Colombo, Vampire was the only ship from Admiral Phillip's Force Z to survive the campaign, although she did not survive the war.
HMAS Castlemaine was allowed to return to Darwin with the civilians but the NOIC Darwin, Commodore Cuthbert Pope RAN, ordered HMAS Armidale to remain in Betano Bay to deliver the Dutch troops.
The exact number of aircraft that attacked HMAS Armidale is unclear, however another vessel in the area, Kuru, reported being attacked by 44 aircraft and 200 bombs.

HMAS YARRA commissioned at Sydney on 21 January 1936 under the command of Captain George D. Moore RAN.
From the time of her commissioning, up to the end of the first twelve months of World War II, YARRA was employed on the Australian coast on patrol and escort duties and as a unit of the 20th Minesweeping Flotilla.
By the end of January the Japanese Army was threatening Singapore and during the night of 30/31 January the British withdrew from Malaya, breached the causeway connecting the Island of Singapore and retired into their supposedly impregnable fortress.

The first Australian warship, the destroyer HMAS Parramatta, was launched at Govan in Scotland on Wednesday 9 February 1910 and its sister ship HMAS Yarra, was launched at Dumbarton in Scotland on Saturday 9 April 1910.
Commissioned as HMAS Melbourne she entered into RAN service in 1956, and provided fixed-wing capability to the fleet until her decommissioning in 1982.
HMAS Westralia will be replaced by a second hand commercial oiler, to be named HMAS Sirius, that is presently being converted, and is due to enter service in 2006.

The first HMAS Bendigo (J-187/B-237/A-111) was a Bathurst class corvette laid down by the Cockatoo Docks and Engineering Company at Sydney in New South Wales on 12 August 1940, launched on 1 March 1941 by Dame Mary Hughes, wife of the Minister for the Navy, and commissioned on 10 May 1941.
HMAS Bendigo paid off on 27 September 1946, was sold to the Ta Hing Company of Hong Kong as a seagoing vessel and renamed Cheung Hing.
The ship was later acquired by the Peoples Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and re-armed for naval service under the name Loyang.
