HMAS Brisbane [II] (1966) was the second vessel of that name to serve in the Royal Australian Navy.
Brisbane undertook two tours of duty with the United States Seventh Fleet off Vietnam, in 1969 and again in 1971, and was the last ship of the RAN to serve there.
HMAS Brisbane berthed in Dubai, Persian Gulf, January 1991.

Brisbane was the first built in Australia, with armament and machinery imported from the United Kingdom.
Brisbane was ordered to the Mediterranean in October 1918 and was en route when the war ended.
Placed in reserve between 1929 and 1935, Brisbane made her final voyage in the latter year, carrying the commissioning crew of HMAS Sydney [II] to the United Kingdom.

 Budget Media Release 2006-2007 - HMAS Brisbane to feature in new war memorial galleries
The bridge and gun sections of HMAS Brisbane will be incorporated into the new post-1945 conflicts galleries at the Australian War Memorial thanks to a $2.1 million allocation in the 2006-07 Federal Budget.
The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Bruce Billson, said this funding was in addition to the $32.4 million allocated to the Memorial for 2006-07.
The Minister said the Brisbane would be a major component of the new galleries and a fitting tribute to the long and distinguished service of the Royal Australian Navy.

After an eight-day stand-off, the unwanted asylum-seekers transferred to the HMAS Manoora, which took them to Papua New Guinea from where they were flown to New Zealand and Nauru, where applications for refugee status would be processed.
However, the Australian government received a humiliating setback on 11 September when the Federal Court ruled that it had acted illegally in refusing the refugees permission to apply for asylum in the country and that they must be allowed to land.

The Brisbane is a perfect place to explore a sunken warship and work on your wreck diving skills.
The HMAS Brisbane was scuttled in July 2005 and since then it has attracted schools of bait fish, a resident school of yellow tailed king fish (that I saw first hand when I was up there last week).
A large bull ray, angler fish, lion fish, blemmies, nudibranchs, sea hares, squid, a small school of juvenile snapper, shovel nose ray, a couple of greasy cod, two eagle rays were hanging around and even an octopus has crawled into one of the pyrotechnic tubes left on the deck.
