HMAS Darwin (04), named for the capital city of the Northern Territory, is an Adelaide class guided missile armed frigate laid down by Todd Shipyards at Seattle in Washington on 2 July 1981, launched on 26 March 1982 and commissioned on 21 July 1984.
She was the fourth and last ship of the six Adelaide class ships built for the Royal Australian Navy in the USA, with the final two ships being built in Australia.

 HMAS Stirling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HMAS Stirling (32°13′33″S, 115°41′24″E) is the name given to the administrative centre of the Royal Australian Navy's main naval base on the west coast (Fleet Base West), located on Garden Island just off the Western Australian coast near the city of Perth.
The name HMAS Stirling was selected to honour Captain James Stirling, Royal Navy, the naval officer who landed on Garden Island in 1827 and returned in June, 1829 to found the first European settlement in Western Australia.
The first major unit to call Fleet Base West home was HMAS Stuart (F 21/DE 48), having first been assigned to Stirling in 1984 for several years and, after refitting in the east, again in 1988 until decommisioning in 1991.

HMAS Swan suffered her first attack by Japanese bombers while she was evacuating civilians from Amboina in the Moluccas in January 1942.
HMAS Swan was in Darwin Harbour when the Japanese carried out their first air raid on Darwin on 19 February 1942.
HMAS Swan became part of the 20th Minesweeping Flotilla which was reformed on 16 October 1945 to clear mines in Australian, New Guinea and Solomon Island waters after the war.

The Australian warship HMAS Darwin left Perth for another tour of duty in the Gulf on Tuesday as hundreds of family and friends bid the 220 crew a tearful farewell.
HMAS Darwin, a guided missile frigate, will replace the HMAS Adelaide which has been in the Gulf since August as part of Australia's contribution to the US-led coalition forces in Iraq.
The Darwin was most recently deployed in the Gulf between November 2002 and April 2003.

HMAS Warrnambool was lucky to escape damage and suffered no casualties.
On 20 February 1942 HMAS Warrnambool rescued 73 survivors from the Filipino vessel Don Isidro which had been badly damaged and set ablaze by the Japanese attackers near Bathurst Island.

A sailor who went missing from HMAS Darwin may have been drinking secretly-stashed spirits into the early hours of the morning, a naval board of inquiry into his disappearance was told today.
Leading Seaman Cameron Gurr disappeared from the Darwin on the night of May 3 when the guided missile frigate was on border protection patrol off Christmas Island.
Naval prosecutor Commander Peter Baston told the board, which is convening at HMAS Stirling, south of Perth, that it was possible the missing sailor continued drinking after his mates had gone to bed.
