  Royal Australian Navy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first Australian warship, the destroyer HMAS Parramatta, was launched at Govan in Scotland on Wednesday 9 February 1910 and its sister ship HMAS Yarra, was launched at Dumbarton in Scotland on Saturday 9 April 1910.
Commissioned as HMAS Melbourne she entered into RAN service in 1956, and provided fixed-wing capability to the fleet until her decommissioning in 1982.
HMAS Westralia will be replaced by a second hand commercial oiler that is presently being converted, and is due to enter service in 2006.

The second HMAS Fremantle (P-203) is the lead ship of the Fremantle class patrol boats down by Brooke Marine at Lowestoft in England on 11 November 1977 launched on 16 February 1979 and commissioned on 15 March 1980.

In November 1918 she was despatched to Samoa and other Pacific islands on a Relief Expedition during the influenza epidemic which spread through the Pacific islands in that year.

The second Penguin was the former light cruiser HMAS Encounter, part of the Australian Fleet that entered Sydney Harbour for the first time on 4 October 1913.
Encounter was renamed Penguin on 1 January 1923 and assumed responsibilities as the Navy's depot and accommodation ship at Garden Island.
HMAS Countersunk, a damage control simulator - built from scrap recovered from the battle-damaged HMAS Australia and HMAS Hobart - was constructed on site and, until well into the 1980s, as part of the Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defence School, it continued to train officers and sailors in the art of battle damage repair.

 William Evan Allan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He served on board the HMAS Encounter till the end of the war and became an able seaman in 1915.
When he was eighteen he survived the Spanish flu pandemic that killed over fifty of his shipmates on the Beramba’s voyage between Cape Town and Sierra Leone.
Allan went on to serve on HMAS Adelaide in World War II, sailing in convoy with HMS Repulse and also HMS Hood.

Born in Bega in New South Wales in July 1899, Mr Allan enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy as a boy sailor at the outbreak of World War I when he was only 14 years old.
As an able seaman, he was a member of the crew of HMAS Encounter from 1915 until 1918.
Mr Allan retired from the navy in 1947 with the rank of lieutenant.

These WWII veterans representing the Allied Chinese Ships' Association, who visited HMAS RANKIN at Port Adelaide on Sunday 25th August, express their thanks and appreciation for the way in which the duty Officers and Crew entertained them and explained the intricacies of modern day submarine life.
We were all very impressed with the state of the boat, complexity of equipment and the enthusiasm of crew members.
