HMAS Geelong was in Sydney harbour during the attack by Japanese midget submarines on the 31st of May 1942, and fired on one of them off Bradley's Head.
HMAS Kutabull, a requisitioned Harbour Ferry and at the moment used as a depot and accommodation ship, was sunk by a torpedo.
HMAS Ipswich, Cessnock and Ballarat were amongst the Australian vessels during the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay on the 2nd of September 1945.

 HMAS Sydney [Australian War Memorial]
On the afternoon of 19 November 1941 the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran (Commander Theodor Detmers) was steaming on a northeasterly course off the coast of Western Australia, approximately 150 miles south west of Carnarvon.
The approaching warship, the light cruiser HMAS Sydney, had sighted the Kormoran and increased speed to intercept her.
This message was received faintly, in garbled form, by the tug UCO and the wireless station at Geraldton, and, presumably, by the Sydney.

HMAS GERALDTON was one of sixty Australian Minesweepers (commonly known as corvettes) built during World War II in Australian shipyards as part of the Commonwealth Government’s wartime shipbuilding programme.
On 11 October 1945 GERALDTON departed Hong Kong for Australia with the remainder of the 22nd Minesweeping Flotilla, arriving in Brisbane on 29 October for docking and leave.
GERALDTON paid off at Colombo on 14 June 1946 and on 24 August 1946 she was transferred to the Turkish Navy and renamed ANTALYA.

In March, 1999, the Report of the Federal Parliamentary Inquiry into the loss of HMAS Sydney recommended a memorial be constructed in Western Australia, fully funded by the Federal and Western Australian Governments.
The Federal Government response to that report in July, 2000, was not opposed to the construction of a memorial in Western Australia, but stressed that such an initiative needed to be funded by public subscription and managed by a committee.

AN advisory committee for Geraldton’s HMAS Sydney II Memorial has moved to make public its support for the building of an ablution block, come kiosk on the site.
HMAS Sydney II Memorial Committee member and City of Geraldton administration manager Brian Robartson, said the committee felt that, as a result of recent media reports the public had a perception that Rotary opposed the addition to the site.
City of Geraldton voted at its last council meeting to seek comment from the Department of Planning and Infrastructure on a proposal to excise that portion of the site.
