 FURNEAUX GROUP - SHIPWRECKS
Her owners arranged for SS Musgrave to conduct a search of the Furneaux Group, beginning what was probably the largest search for a missing vessel yet conducted in Australia, and the first to make use of aircraft.
Wreckage of a vessel, possibly the Orion, was found scattered throughout the Furneaux Group, and she probably went down in a gale.
Several vessels went in search of her: tug Wybia was sent to search the coast of King Island, the Victorian Government’s steamer Lady Loch was sent to investigate the Victorian coast as far east as Wilson’s Promontory and the Bass Straits islands as far south as the Hogan Group.
