  HMAS Otway - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
The first HMAS Otway was an O class submarine laid down by Vickers Limited of Barrow-in-Furness in England in March 1925, launched on 7 September 1926 and commissioned on 15 June 1927.
HMAS Otway paid off into Reserve on 10 May 1930, paid off for transfer to the Royal Navy on 9 April 1931 and commissioned as HMS Otway on 10 April 1931.
The second HMAS Otway (S-59) was an Oberon class submarine laid down by Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company at Greenock in Scotland on 29 June 1965, launched on 29 November 1966 and commissioned on 23 April 1968.

 HMAS Oxley - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first HMAS Oxley was an O class submarine built by Vickers Armstrong Limited at Barrow-in-Furness in England, launched on 29 June 1926 and commissioned on 1 April 1927.
HMAS Oxley paid off on 9 April 1931 and transferred to the Royal Navy on 10 April 1931.
HM Submarines Oxley and Triton were patrolling off Norway on 10th September 1939 and had been in regular contact when Triton spotted an unidentified submarine off the coast of Norway.

Above HMA Submarine J2 In 1923 there was vigorous debate on the subject of whether Britain should build replacement submarines for the "J" Class or build them in Australia.
The first of this new breed was HMAS Oxley, commissioned in March 1967, followed by her sisters HMAS Otway, HMAS Ovens and HMAS Onslow.

 HMAS OXLEY - HMA Ship Histories (Sea Power Centre - Australia)
HMAS OXLEY was commissioned on 1 April 1927 under the command of Commander Hugh R. Marrack DSC RN.
OXLEY departed Portsmouth, in company with her sister ship HMAS OTWAY, on 8 February 1928 and proceeded to Malta where both submarines were based until November 1928.
With the outbreak of World War II, OXLEY was assigned to patrol duty off the coast of Norway, where, unfortunately, she was torpedoed and sunk on 10 September 1939 by another British submarine, HMS TRITON, who had mistaken her for an enemy vessel.

The order for the O class submarines Oxley and Otway was placed in March 1925, under the premise that it was more cost efficient to have two new submarines instead of six obsolete.
Although, when HMAS Oxley left Malta she was under the command of Lt.Cdr.F.L. Getting, thus becoming the first 'Australian' submarine commander.
One of the highlights of their arrival was leave for the crew, some of which had been overseas for four years.

Marine and Civil Construction are currently working on the extension of Oxley Wharf, home of Australia’s Collins class submarines at Fleet Base West, Garden Island.
The project involves the driving of 12 piles up to 50m in length, forming and casting of two concrete dolphin structures and connecting them back to the existing Oxley Wharf with two space truss walkways.
