HMAS Perth and USS Houston returned to Tanjong Priok at 2.30pm on Saturday 28th February, 1942 after the Battle of the Java Sea.
PERTH was low on 6" and the 4"AA were firing star shells and practice rounds to make it look like they had plenty of ammunition left.
PERTH was hit by four torpedoes over the next 15 minutes and at 0025 on 1st March 1942, she finally sank a few miles north of St Nicholas Point at the entrance to Sunda Strait.

He was serving in HMAS Perth during the Battle of Matapan, which took place off Greece and Crete from 28 to 29 March 1941.
Whilst in port at Malta, PERTH was strained by a near miss in an air raid.

Perth endured daily attacks by German and Italian aircraft during convoys to Malta escorting merchant ships with badly needed supplies, and later also in the Greek campaign.
Most of his former Perth shipmates went down with the ship in the Battle of Sunda Strait or were taken prisoner of war, with many dying in captivity.

HMAS Derwent was fitted with Ikara in November 1965 and the system was also fitted to HMAS Parramatta and HMAS Yarra during refits in 1967.
HMAS Perth, on which Adastra's involvement with Ikara began, was sunk as a dive wreck off the coast of Albany, Western Australia on 24th November 2001.

These were the "Chatham" class light cruiser HMAS Adelaide, the "County" class cruisers Australia, (flagship) and Canberra, the "Amphion" Class cruisers Sydney, Perth, Hobart and the "County" Class cruiser Shropshire, transferred from Britain in 1943 as replacement for war losses Sydney, Perth, and Canberra.

The first Australian warship, the destroyer HMAS Parramatta, was launched at Govan in Scotland on Wednesday 9 February 1910 and its sister ship HMAS Yarra, was launched at Dumbarton in Scotland on Saturday 9 April 1910.
When it was decided that the RAN should commission ships armed with guided missiles, the obvious British design was the "County" class destroyer; however, the RAN had reservations regarding the gas turbine propulsion, the Seaslug missile system, and being able to adapt the design to Australian needs.
HMAS Westralia will be replaced by a second hand commercial oiler, to be named HMAS Sirius, that is presently being converted, and is due to enter service in 2006.
