The first HMAS Torrens (D-67) was a River class torpedo boat destroyer laid down by the Cockatoo Docks and Engineering Company Propriety Limited at Sydney in New South Wales on 25 January 1913, launched on 28 August 1915 by Lady Helen Munro-Ferguson, wife of the Governor-General and commissioned on 3 July 1916.
The second HMAS Torrens (DE-53) was a River class destroyer escort laid down by the Cockatoo Docks and Engineering Company Propriety Limited at Sydney in New South Wales on 18 August 1965, launched on 28 September 1968 by Dame Zara Holt, DBE, and commissioned on 19 January 1971.
HMAS Torrens paid off in 1998 and was sunk as a target by the submarine HMAS Waller off Western Australia on 14 June 1999.

 HMAS Torrens (1916-1926)
HMAS Torrens was built at the Cockatoo Island shipyard in Sydney Harbour and commissioned into the RAN in July 1916.
On the 10th, Torrens, with HMS Redpole, went to the aid of the Italian destroyer Benedetto Cairoli, which had been rammed and was sinking.
Her hulk was used as a gunnery target and was eventually sunk off Sydney by HMAS Canberra in November 1930.

Until 1998, Torrens Primary School enjoyed a close association with HMAS Torrens, annually sending a group of Year 4 students to visit the ship.
During 1998, HMAS Torrens was decommissioned, and a new relationship with HMAS Canberra established.
Torrens Primary School also enjoys a close association with Panania Public School in Sydney, having participated in annual interschool visits for over thirty years.

For gearing - and aesthetics, I chose a 26 inch rear wheel, but retained the popular 20 inch front wheel layout.
Some time later, I was approached by CPO Andrew Hooker, RAN who wanted to borrow #001 for a charity ride on behalf of his then current posting on HMAS Torrens.
That was the last I saw of my trike for six months.
