Captain Agar was awarded the VC for his successful attack on the Bolshevist cruiser Oleg in Kronstadt naval harbour in 1919, which he sank during special service operations, with a torpedo fired by Coastal Torpedo Boat No.4.
During the 1920's, Agar served in the Royal Yacht, commanded the sloop Scarborough, and the cruiser Curlew.
During the Second World War he commanded Emerald for nine months, was then with Coastal Forces until mid-1941, when he took command of the cruiser Devonshire where he stayed until she was sunk.
