The Halifax Class Multi-Role Patrol Frigate (hull designation FFH) is a class of Canadian Navy frigates launched between 1992 and 1996 to replace the aging "River Class" fleet of Destroyer Escorts (DDEs).
HMCS Halifax was the first of an eventual twelve Canadian-designed and Canadian-built helicopter-carrying frigates.
Plans are underway to replace the Sea Sparrow missiles with the Evolved Sea Sparrow, upgrade the towed sonar arrays and fit newer screws and anechoic tiles to reduce noise emission.

Monday's fire aboard HMCS Toronto started in the forward auxiliary machinery room at 7:10 p.m., as the ship was tied up in Halifax.
HMCS Toronto was built in Saint John, N.B., and commissioned by the navy in 1993.

The Fredericton sustained damage to one of its three radar systems, water damage to its public address system and damage to the windshield wipers on the bridge.
HMCS Regina, which is stationed in Esquimalt, B.C., sailed for the Arabian Sea Feb. 2.

HMCS Fredericton (FFH 337) departed Halifax, Nova Scotia last Thursday (January 9) bound for the Middle East.
In announcing Fredericton's departure, Rear Admiral Gary Garnett, Commander Maritime Forces Atlantic, noted that, "This deployment illustrates the commitment of the Department of National Defence, specifically the navy, for the Government of Canada's international trade and foreign policy initiatives." Canada has been vigorously pursuing shipbuilding contracts in the Persian Gulf region.
This one, relating to the navy, was shot on board HMCS Yukon during a "Crossing the Line" ceremony as the vessel crossed the equator in 1991.

The news comes one day after HMCS Iroquois, a destroyer, was damaged when of Canada's aging Sea King helicopters crashed onto its deck.

The report outlines the difficulties HMCS Fredericton and fisheries officers faced during an inspection of the Olga on Feb. 21, 2002.
The Canadian inspectors found the fishing logs weren't properly documented and the vessel was carrying tonnes of illegally caught fish.

The Honourable John McCallum, Minister of National Defence, announced today that having accepted the command of Task Force 151, Canada has decided to send a command and control destroyer, HMCS Iroquois, to the Arabian Sea to give Commodore Girouard the platform he needs to fulfill his coalition responsibilities.
HMCS Iroquois, commanded by Captain (N) Paul Maddison, sailed with a helicopter detachment embarked that was originally intended for HMCS Fredericton.
HMCS Fredericton, which was slated to sail on February 17 to replace HMCS Montréal, already in the Gulf, will now delay her sailing date until another helicopter detachment crew can be prepared to sail with her.

Lt.-Cmdr. Denise Laviolette, a navy spokesperson in Halifax, said the fire next to a wardroom was extinguished quickly and no one was injured.
