It was built at Halifax Shipyard, Halifax, Nova Scotia in September 1997, and commissioned at the town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador July 26, 1998.
The ship is used for coastal surveillance, sovereignty patrol and training.
