  HMCS Toronto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The original vessel, HMCS Toronto (K538) was a River-class frigate that served in the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Navy.
HMCS Toronto was commissioned in May 1944 and served 18 months, retiring in November 1945.
She was sold to the Royal Norwegian Navy in 1956 and was retired and sold for scrap in the mid 1970s.

The sole remaining aircraft carrier, HMCS Bonaventure, was nearing the end of her service life, being a World War II-era vessel.
The investigation focused on two hatches that were left open during repairs, thus allowing seawater inside while the submarine was on the surface in a period of rough weather, as well as faulty insulation for wires and a panel near the commanding officer\'s cabin.
The remaining two supply ships, HMCS Preserver and HMCS Protecteur, were showing their age, and MARCOM began studies into designing a new class of underway-replenishment and naval sealift-capable vessels.

(AST), while being berthed at the MIL Davie shipyard in Lauzon, Québec, HMCS Ville de Québec collided with a pier that caused damage to the ship's hull.
Ville de Québec was being assisted by two tugs into her berth when a combination of river current and wind set the ship onto the pier.
Ville de Québec is in Lauzon to commence a two-month docking period at the MIL shipyard.

The RCN was also called upon to take part in naval action in the weeks leading to the fall of France.
Four of its seven destroyers are sent to the British Isles to support the Royal Navy and, starting June 9th, 1940, HMCS Restigouche, Skeena, St-Laurent and Fraser shuttle across the Channel to evacuate the remaining Allied troops.

I spent my last months on HMCS Crusader doing scientific work before my shenagins became too much for the officers and shipmates, and I was sent off to detention and then out of the service.
Quebec a cruiser, hmcs Magneficent a carrier, hmcs Crusader a destroyer, hmcs Buckimham a fregate, fort erie a minesweeper i think and my last 2½ years aboard the Haida one of the best ship that i sail on.
I was aboard H.M.C.S. HAIDA when she paid off in 1963.We had some Haida natives come to Halifax for the paying off ceremonies.We also had a shipmate on board by the name of Jones who himself was a Haida.

Main base for the Group Chaleur, the offices of HMCS Chaleur II were located at the Port of Quebec on the same site where, in 1995, the Canadian Force Fleet School Quebec and the Naval Museum of Quebec were later built, the latter being dedicated to Lieutenant-Commander Stanislas Déry, RCNVR.

Earlier, in April, I asked the minister of public works to respect the lower bid of the Davie Industries, even though the company was under the protection of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
The minister of public works has allowed the repairs to the frigate HMCS Ville de Québec to take place in the dry dock, which is unofficially under the administration of Davie.
Under the present circumstances, it would be inconceivable that Davie not be able to use it to repair the frigate HMCS Ville de Québec and other work, when a vessel is being repaired for the department of public works, for the federal government.

The navy's sole aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure was nearing the end of its service life, being a World War II-era vessel.
MARCOM hurriedly modernized and deployed HMCS Terra Nova, a Restigouche-class destroyer-escort, along with HMCS Athabaskan and the supply ship HMCS Protecteur to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Shield and later Operation Desert Storm where these vessels were involved in escort duties of various coalition naval forces and non-combatants.
In addition to supporting naval operations, the new ships will together be able to transport an army battle group, a capability Canada's navy has lacked since the departure of the light-carrier HMCS Magnificent in the late 1950s when she was used as a transport during the Suez Crisis.

Built at Davie Shipbuilding Ltd. In Lauzon, Quebec, HMCS ATHABASKAN, the third warship of her class, was launched on November 27th, 1970 and commissioned on November 30th, 1972.
For defense against air and surface threats, HMCS ATHABASKAN originally had the Canadian Sea Sparrow missile system and a 5" 54 caliber gun.
Both these systems were radar controlled.August 24th, 1990, forty years after her predecessor sailed for Korea, ATHABASKAN accompanied by the destroyer TERRA NOVA and the supply ship PROTECTEUR, sailed for the Persian Gulf to support a multi-national naval blockade following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.

 L'Arsenal 1/400 Mid-War Corvette
Within the past few months I have been fortunate enough to acquire a half dozen of the L'Arsenal kits and I intend to do an infrequent series of articles on converting them to the various 'typical' configurations that they could be seen in during the Second World War.
Built by Davie Shipbuilding Co. Ltd in Lauzon Quebec, Snowberry was originally intended for the Royal Navy, and as such she is in typical RN, rather than RCN fit.
The main differences between RN and RCN Flowers was in the location of the galley - originally right aft in RN ships, later in front of the funnel and behind and below the bridge in RCN, and the location of the 2pdr bandstand.

 Life Beyond Elections and SSNs - TWR
For Canada's navy, 1988 saw the handover to MIL-Davie of HMCS Iroquois, the second of two Tribal-class destroyers to undergo conversion from a primary anti-submarine warfare (ASW) role to a primary anti-air warfare (AAW) role.
The decision as to the shipyard for TRUMP (Tribal-class Update and Modernization Project) conversions three (Athabaskan) and four (Huron) is expected to be announced in April of this year.
Also noteworthy were the launching of HMCS Halifax (the first of the long-awaited City-class patrol frigates) and the keel laying ceremonies (or the modular equivalent thereof) for the second and third City-class patrol frigates (Vancouver and Ville de Quebec).

Adding to the complexity and cost, the ship was kept in commission, with most of her crew retained on board or nearby.
She left Lauzon for Halifax on 13 September 1967 for sea trials and re-working-up to efficiency by both the crew and the air detachment.

Both HAIDA and HMCS IROQUOIS were near-missed by torpedoes and the reprieve only came when a snowstorm descended upon the convoy, making contact on both sides difficult.
High points of these years included assisting HMCS ALGONQUIN after she was damaged by Hurricane Carla in September 1956 and escorting LAUZON and PORTAGE into Halifax in March 1957 after they collided.
Reservists from HMCS York, Toronto acted as skeleton crew and she was towed to Toronto by two tugs.

Leo-Paul Lauzon has been touted by the NDP as a potential candidate in the Montreal riding of Outremont.
I read (on-line) the special on the War in the Pacific as we approach the 60th Anniversary in the Globe and Mail, and through a series of web surfing events I found out that past Premier of Ontario John Robarts is quite the interesting guy.
He served as an officer on the HMCS Uganda, a Canadian ship that served in the Pacific (along with other theatres).
