The HMCS Oakville (K178) was a Flower-class corvette in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II.
The Oakville was sold to Venezuela after the war.
However, The Ship's Bell disappeared before it was sold to Venezuela, and has since been missing.

The only known surviving Flower, HMCS Sackville, has been restored to her wartime appearance, and is now a museum ship in Halifax, Nova Scotia, one of the ports where Atlantic convoys assembled during the war.

 Shadows of War: Not So Long Ago in the 20th Century
In July 1942, HMCS Oakville returned to Halifax Force to escort Halifax-Aruba convoys and, on her second arrival in Aruba, August 1942 she was diverted to support convoy TAW.15, the Aruba -Key West section.
HMCS Oakville stopped in Guantanamo for a reprieve and repairs and arrived back in Halifax on September 16, 1942 where more repairs were completed by December 1, 1942.
Thereafter HMCS Oakville was paid off at Sorel on July 20 and sold to the Venezuelan Navy in 1946 and renamed Patria, serving until 1962.

His next sailing was on the newly built corvette HMCS Oakville, where for more than a year and a half he served as a gunner down in southern waters.
This action was in the Caribbean Sea when with complete disregard for his own safety, and in order to get his gun back into action, he immediately removed the hot charge of cordite from the breach of the gun when the third charge misfired, throwing it with all his might into the sea.
He returned to sea aboard HMCS Athabaskan, which was torpedoed and sunk in the morning hours of April 29, 1944, “still firing at two German destroyers that struck at her in the haze of a starlit night”.

In 1942 he transfered to the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve (RCNR) in the rank of Lieutenant-Commander and was given command of the Bangor Class Minesweeper HMCS NIPIGON.
It was while in command of this warship that he engaged a U-boat (U-94)in the Caribbean in a battle that involved depth charging, gunfire on the surface and ramming it three times.

On Wednesday November 5th, 1941 Oakville and district residents thronged to Lakeside Park to join in and cheer at dedication ceremonies for the corvette H.M.C.S. Oakville.
The “Oakville” went off to World War II and on August 28th, 1942 sunk a German U-boat, U-94, one of only three corvettes to do so during the war.
The Badge the Sea Cadets wear on their tunics is reminiscent of the original town crest and the gun shield created for H.M.C.S. Oakville.

On 28 August 1942, in the company of American Warships and the corvettes HMCS HALIFAX and HMCS SNOWBERRY, the corvette HMCS OAKVILLE was escorting a convoy off Haïti when it attacked U-94.
The submarine, which had been on the point of attacking the convoy, was first spotted and bombarded by an American seaplane.
Oakville dropped depth charges to force it to surface, and after bombarding it, rammed the submarine twice.

RCN Skeena D.59 Built by Thornycroft and launched 10th October 1930, she was grounded of the coast of Iceland 25th October 1944, salved and scrapped in 1946.
They were as follows; HMCS Galt, HMCS Agassiz, HMCS Sackville, HMCS Saguenay, HMCS Skeena and HMCS Wetaskiwin, the latter being the only one my brother served on.
Her nick-name was the Wet Ass Queen and she had a picture of the Queen of Hearts sitting in a pool of water, -- painted on the forward side of the bridge.

Fate: Sunk on 27 August 1942, in Caribbean waters, in position 17°40'N, 74°30'W by depth charges from a VP-92 PBY-5A Catalina piloted by Lieutenant G. Fiss, and ramming by the Canadian corvette HMCS Oakville.
Although the boat crash-dived upon being sighted, she was blown to the surface by the PBY's attack, after which she was attacked and rammed three times by the Canadian corvette HMCS Oakville before she sank.
The boat was lost with 19 hands, 26 of her crew being rescued and taken prisoners.
