Royalist was withdrawn from the East Indies and returned home at the end of hostilities to Naval Reserve duties.
HMNZS Stewel, Not to sure of her details, such a long time ago but she looks like one of the minesweepers used for training.
The Scottish author Alistair Mclean served on the HMS Royalist during WW11 and used his expeiences as background for his acclaimed first novel HMS Ulysses as well as some of his other novels.

The unexpected breakdown of ROYALIST on the voyage home to New Zealand in November 1965 after her tour on the Far East station was, of course, a sad blow.
HMNZS INVERELL, a Bathurst-class minesweeper, was brought out of reserve and commissioned in Auckland on 16 August 1965 and has been engaged on fishery protection patrols combined with a training role.
ROYALIST and ROTOITI are at present being de-equipped with a view to disposal later in 1966.

HMNZS ROTOITI, the sea training ship for the RNZN, is complemented with a large number of trainees who are being introduced to life at sea.
HMNZS ENDEAVOUR sailed from Auckland on 9 April to begin the longest oceanographic cruise in the history of the RNZN steaming 6,950 miles to the Southern Ocean and back and spending 42 days continuously at sea.
HMNZS HAKU was commissioned as the fourth member of the Squadron in January.

The NZGSM in silver is to be awarded to members of the crew of HMNZS Royalist for service during the Suez crisis in 1956.
HMNZ Ships Rotoiti and Pukaki were deployed to Christmas Island in March 1957 and were present for the first test at nearby Malden Island in May 1957.
HMNZS Canterbury followed Otago in this duty, and was present for a further test on 28 July.

Mount Royalist is a prominent mountain standing 3 km (2 mi) west of Mount Adam in Victoria Land.
Named by the New Zealand GSAE, 1957-58, for its impressive appearance and also for the New Zealand cruiser HMNZS Royalist.
Several adjacent peaks are named for New Zealand ships including Mount Ajax and Mount Black Prince.

 Archivist baffled by UFO on official photo
A Navy Museum archivist who found an unidentified flying object on a 40-year-old photograph says it does not appear to be faked.
The official picture was taken from the HMNZS Royalist during Waitangi Day celebrations in 1965, and features a saucer-shaped object in the sky.
Archivist Paul Restall found the photo while sifting through old negatives.

In 1950 Commander Brian Turner assumed command of the frigate HMNZS Rotoiti for her tour of duty with the United States naval forces in Korea during hostilities there.
He served on patrol boats and minesweepers, and was involved in action against the Japanese on the cruiser HMNZS Gambia.
Subsequent appointments included executive officer on the HMNZS cruiser Black Prince, superintendent of the naval dockyard in Devonport, Royal New Zealand naval liaison officer in London, and commanding officer of the cruiser HMNZS Royalist.

The Navy Museum is calling for help to identify an unidentified flying object in the background of one of its official photographs.
The picture was taken on board the HMNZS Royalist during Waitangi Day celebrations in 1965 and features a saucer-like object in the sky.
The director of the museum, Commander David Wright, says a museum archivist found the object when looking through photographs to put on a website.

During the process of preparing the website, Navy Museum staff sorted through thousands of photographs and negatives held in the Museum’s archives.
Among these, an intriguing image was discovered of HMNZS ROYALIST returning from Waitangi Day celebrations in the Bay of Islands, 1965.
The HMNZS ROYALIST image has not been digitally altered in any way.

HMNZS Royalist HMNZS Royalist under the Command of Capt (later R Admiral, Sir) Peter Phipps RNZN was the only New Zealand ship seconded for duty in the Med Fleet.
The NZers were there mainly due to the fact that NZ was purchasing the Cruiser from the RN and had been in the UK since July 56, while they were doing sea trials in the Med and were in Malta they were put on "War Alert" and seconded for duty with the fleet.
She was escorted off the N African coast by a NZ Cruiser HMZS ROYALIST who had asked to join in and been told that she should only fire in self defence!

Admiral Stevenson’s commands, as Captain, were HMAS Tobruk, and Senior Officer Tenth Destroyer Squadron (1958-1959), HMNZS Royalist (1960-1961), HMAS Sydney (1963-1964) and HMAS Melbourne (1964-1965).
He attended the Imperial Defence College in 1966, and on his return to Australia in 1967, was appointed Naval Officer in Charge West Australian Area.

The ‘blip’ is roughly saucer-shaped, and appears in the sky ahead of the HMNZS Royalist as it returned from the 1965 Waitangi day celebrations.
